Damdami Taksal | Dhadhrianwala | Jassowa

Harnam Singh Dhumma was living in seattle and I believe was 'rumored' to be a sant that did bhagati. I don't know about his previous links to taksaal but most likely he stayed and learned from taksaal (mehta) before coming to the united state and becoming a citizen.
There is also another player and that is Giani Ram singh sangrur. While Baba Thakur singh was alive, there was talk on who make the next jathedar. Giani Ram singh was suggested, but unfortunately his wife announced it to the media, I believe. She said that Ram singh was next jathedar. The issue is Baba jee was still alive, and so ram singh was not the next jathedar but was considered. Then Baba Jee made a statement that Ram singh was not the jathedar and he was no longer considered.
When Baba jee passed away, he had not decided on the successor. There were rumors that Sant Jee's oldiest son be considered, Jasbir Singh Rode (nephew of Sant Jee), etc. Most likely Harnam singh took the opportunity and and was backed by government and became Jathedar. Ram Singh sangrur also claimed himself jathedar. Many taksalis felt that Harnaam singh should not have been and broke away. Actually living in CA, or visiting Canada, I have never met any taksali that considered him a the rightful leader, let alone a sant.
Here are the various groups
  • Harnam Singh Dhummas group (Mehta chowk; government backed and politically aligned with Badal and SGPC)
  • Baba Mohan Singh Bhindrawale (student of Sant Gurbachan Singh, broke away and claimed jathedar during the times of Sant Kartar Singh; owns the original gurdwara of Sant Gurbachan singh)
  • Giani Avtar Singh Badnikala (grandson of sant Gurbachan singh and kathavachik/teacher of taksaal)
  • Giani Ram Singh sangrur (claims to jathedar; kathavahick, recognized by AKJ)
  • There is a portion of Taksal in village of Boparai (Sant sundar singh Bhindrwale did katha of entire SGGS there and also I think he passed away there too)
  • Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala (Student of taksaal; completely rejects Dhumma and also claims Dhumma does drugs. LOL - after 11:30. He is chosen Jathedar of Thakat Sri Keshghar sahib, Sarbat Khalsa 2015)
  • Many more groups in Canada, Europe, Australia, US.
Harnaam singh Dhumma was most likely chosen since he seemed like a controllable pawn. It has posted that he had links the KPS Gill, but I have never heard of that or seen any evidence. But no matter he is a government pawn. But at the same time, just because we are unaware of his seva, doesn't mean he hasn't done anything in the last 10 years. Dhumma does standard taksali katha (nothing amazing) and has done larivaar katha of SGGS. He does seem knowledgeable, but isn't outspoken against government like his predecessors. He has also hosted a Dasam Granth Gian Prabhod smagam (where they do prakash of many puratan saroops and read them line by line to note differences. Then the correct meanings are used to find correct version. Unlike SGGS, DG has not been standardized Link: Shabad Vichar Parbodh Smagam). Lastly He was the driving force to get the shaheed gurdwara constructed for 1984 shaheeds at Harmander Sahib, (SGPC was not in favor of it).
Although I don't support or trust him, it is unfair to say he is a complete RSS/government agent. He is a tool but I don't think is distorting gurbani or sikhi in anyway, nor does he . I don't think he is dumb enough to order a hit on Dhadriawale, but we will see where the investigation leads.
Personally, I believe it was more of his fanboys or supporters that did this on their own free will. But if he is involved than hopefully he gets replaced with someone more genuine. He has had many oppositions over the years and no one else has been attacked.
Harnaam Singh Dhumma led the sant samaj for a long time (most likely due to respect for previous jathedars and their contribution to the panth), but last year the sant samaj broke ties with him. This was back when Jathedars pardon jhoota sauda. Dhumma then supported a commitee lead by akal jathedar to review the pardon.
